Minimal Style

It’s been a while since I have added new photos. Been busy working on uni project which is ‘landscape, still life and portraiture’ the aim is for the work to appear similar in style. My direction for this project has gone very minimal with an emphasis on design. I still have yet to decide final images as I still have a few more shoots to do.

Mens hair/fashion

The focus of this shoot was the hair this was cut and styled by Gemma Holiday. The models are Paul Reeve and Billy Kirby. During the shoot I used a beauty dish ( to achieve harsh light yet as it is diffused it also allows the shadows not to become too dark and lose detail) at times a soft box was used however a reflector was predominantly used to bounce light back into shaded areas. The aim was for a simple look to keep the focus on the hair yet to still allow the styling to be fashionable. Billy is 16, and therefore we kept the clothing etc more suitable for his age. Paul is mainly dressed in the white shirt with black tie for a smarter more mature feel.

Fujifilm Awards Merit Award

Fujifilm Awards Merit Award

I won merit award at the Fujifilm Awrads with this image. The brief was ‘Extreme’ I wanted to create an image that had a mixture of portraiture and fashion mixed together. I looked at how people judge people on there appearance I felt that people heavily miss judge people and I wanted my work to show their personality, to show that they are proud of who they are. I believe my series of portraits does this yet still holding a strong element of extreme to them. The images were all shot on fujifilm with very minimal editing.
